ESPN Playoff Promises Series
Overview
Playoff Promises was an Instagram mini-series of reality show style videos where fans were selected to follow through with their "playoff promise" if their team made the semi-finals in the 2019 College Football season. These promises ranged from getting hair dyed Ohio State scarlet red to getting an OU tattoo.
In collaboration with Evolved Cinema based in Atlanta, I developed all of the motion design for the four videos in the series along with editing two of them.
Brief
Initially, my task was to simply create a graphic teaser edit to explain the premise of the series while the other episodes were still in production. After a very positive response from the team, my role quickly expanded into creating a full graphics template to be used across the whole series, then taking on full post-production for the later videos.
Approach
I wanted to give the graphics the same feeling and level of quality that is seen in ESPN's broadcast content as well as match the design style already established in the Who's In? campaign created by McKinney.
It's rough, grainy, and glitchy with the fast cutting, snappy kinetics you want to see in sports broadcast motion design.
Results
With 750,000+ combined views on Instagram, the series was a success. The project was challenging, but definitely worthwhile and I'm glad to have been a part of it.
