The Harvey Awards Show Open

Overview

The Harvey Awards are an annual award program to celebrate the acheivements of the employees of Firestone Building Products. The awards take their name from Harvey S. Firestone, the man who founded the Firestone company over a century ago. 

I was commissioned to create a 30 second video to open the ceremony and briefly tell the story of Harvey and his legacy.

Process

The Firestone team provided a rough outline of talking points and some fantastic archival images I was able to use as a foundation for creating the piece. Music selection was an important first step to establish the background emotional tone and and to set the pacing for the voiceover.

Writing, editing, and design all happened in tandem to create a first draft animatic complete with music, rough voiceover, and storyboards.

With all the essential elements approved, I sourced a voice actor to record a professional voiceover and applied animation to bring the designs to life. Overall, a very streamlined and smooth project.

Almost always I will create a few style frames to communicate to the client what the final look will be. In this case, a full storyboard was critical for me to make sure the timing and flow of the visuals were right.
